CALIFORNIA TRUCKING ASSOCIATION
SEMINAR DESCRIPTIONS

MANAGING CASH FLOW: This course will cover cash management practices, holding on to your cash, reviewing your cash flow system, collections, and keeping your cash longer. ($89 Members, $99 Non-Members)

MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY, HOW TO PASS A DOT AUDIT This seminar covers the foundations for all managers in the trucking industry.  Regulations mandate training and knowledge of the Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – this is the seminar to do it.  We will cover all pertinent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Requirements and touch on corresponding state laws including: alcohol and drug testing, driver’s licensing and qualifications, accident control, insurance requirements, hours of service and logs, maintenance, and basic hazardous materials. This seminar is not only targeted at conducting a safe business but also how to help you do well during an audit.  e whole class is targeted at . Each paid attendee will be provided a copy of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. ($119 Members, $129 Non-members)

MEASURING AND EVALUATING COST AND EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT: This course will cover evaluating vehicle life, specking vehicles, bid preparation, maintenance, selling vehicles and replacement plans. ($89 Members, $99 Non-Members)

FEDERAL HOURS OF SERVICEOne of the most visible and audited of the areas the DOT mandates management control over is how the driver’s hours of service are utilized.  Everyone in the industry must have an intimate knowledge of hours of service limits and logs. It is not so much about logs or even hours limits as it is about fatigue and how to minimize it.  Regulations have been changing substantially over the past three years and still may in the near future.  We will cover the regulations and interpretations that effect how we limit our driver’s hours and record that activity on the logs.  Don’t log unless you have to but if you need to them they have to be perfect. Each paid attendee will be provided a copy of the Hours of Service regulations in Part 395 of the FMCSR. ($89 Members, $99 Non-members)

SAILING THROUGH YOUR BIT: This course offers a comprehensive training seminar that will assist companies with understanding and preparing for BIT audits. The material will be covered in-depth and a BIT Kit ($39 Member, $78 Non-member) will be provided to each paid attendee. Specifically, this seminar will provide the member with a complete overview of the biennial inspection of terminals process and will emphasize the four most frequent problem areas: Driver Qualification and Discipline, Hours of Service, Maintenance, and Out-of-Service Rules. ($89 Members, $99 Non-members)

TRAIN THE TRAINER, HOW TO RUN A SAFETY MEETING: Training is the most effective method to implement safety programs and motivate employees to stay safe.  If done enthusiastically and effectively it can be powerful.  If done casually, with no passion, it will probably be a waste of everyone’s time.  We don’t train to say we did—we train to make a difference in someone’s life.  Come to this seminar and learn the basics to effective training and pick up ideas on how to charge up you safety program.  ($89 Members, $99 Non-members)

DRUG & ALCOHOL SUPERVISOR REASONABLE SUSPICION TRAINING: This course is customized for employees who supervise those involved in a safety-sensitive position and are required to have a minimum of two hours of training to aid in the recognition of the signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse.  Our course goes beyond the requirements and includes role-playing to train attendees in basic interview tactics to help protect your company from false accusations and lawsuits.  ($89 Members, $99 Non-members)

OSHA IN THE TRUCKING INDUSTRYThe Occupational Safety and Health Administration has thousands of workplace safety regulations that many of us in the industry consider secondary to the DOT rules.  OSHA considers the cab of the truck as a workplace.  The transportation industry is loaded with OSHA regulated areas including the in the office, warehouse, and the shop.  Find out what they have jurisdiction over and what we must do to comply.  Each paid attendee will be provided a copy of the pertinent OSHA regulations. ($89 Members, $99 Non-members)

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CERTIFICATIONThis seminar is for hazmat shippers, transporters and handlers.  This training should be mandatory for all employees who are involved with hazardous materials.  Employers must ensure that each employee is trained initially within 90 days of employment and recertified every 36 months.  We will cover general requirements, hazmat tables, shipping papers, packaging, marking and labeling, placarding, loading, emergency response and security. Hazmat training, testing and certification are required every 36 months. Each paid attendee will be provided a Hazardous Material Regulation Manual. ($109 Members, $119 Non-members)
